Organize Photographs, Inside Out

How to Finally Organize Photographs

"Photograph: a picture painted by the sun without instruction in art."
--Ambrose Bierce

If I told you that your house was on fire and you only had time to rescue one item, what would you choose?

When I ask clients this question, almost unanimously they answer "the photographs!".

Why our fascination with photographs? For many people, photographs represent our memories. Snapshots of our past experiences with friends and family, good and bad times, milestones and events. Photographs are experiences we want to remember forever, captured on a little pieces of inked paper.

Most people want to preserve their photo memories, but unfortunately have no system in place to organize photos. That's why I've included articles and resources to help you with picture organization.

If you haven't already started the 3-step process to Organize Life, Inside Out using the ZPoint Process, Click here to start. Then come back and we'll discuss how to organize photographs.

Ready? Okay...

Think about the pictures you own. In order to organize pictures, let's start with identifying our intentions for the process.

Most people keep photographs for the following reasons:

  • to remember important people or events
  • to share their experiences and stories with others
  • to preserve their memories and those of their ancestors for future generations

Take a few moments to jot down your intentions, why you want to organize your pictures. Put your intentions in the present tense as if you are already experiencing them.

Here are some examples:

  • My photos are all preserved in a digital format so I can store and share them easily.
  • My photos are organized so I can scrapbook them and share memories and my creativity with others.
  • I have an organized system to store and back up my photos so I can keep them safe and share them easily.
