Organize Life with these
Inside-Out Tips and Techniques

In order to better organize life, whether in your home, with your family, or financially, you need to accept the following fact:

Your outer environment is a direct reflection
of your internal thoughts and feelings.

That includes both conscious and unconscious thoughts and feelings.

Those who are most successful at organizing their lives understand this fact. They also use techniques to help release negative thoughts and feelings so that they can better identify what it is they want in life and then work towards it achieving it.

Imagine that your brain is like a computer. That computer has various programs installed, which you can open, close, minimize, and expand.

Let's use the computer analogy for our thoughts...

  • Maybe you opened the "organize the garage" program because you're thinking about having a rummage sale this weekend. You start thinking about that box of things from your grandmother that you haven't opened in years and whether or not to sell some of the items. You're unaware that there's another program running in the background, but minimized. It's the "guilt and low-self-esteem" program, which runs behind the scenes in many of your thoughts. What happens as a result of that minimized program? Maybe you consciously decide not to have the rummage sale, making up some excuse to justify it, but not understanding the real reason why.

Now do you understand how your thoughts and feelings effect your behavior, often unconsciously?

If you have a problem getting organized, one solution would be to hire a professional organizer. For many self-proclaimed "pack-rats", it would seem like a blessing. They could help you declutter all that junk, and maybe even give you lists and procedures to follow afterwards. But unless you address the underlying cause of why you are a pack rat in the first place, you would just fill up your house again with more clutter and junk.

"When an inner situation is not made conscious,
it appears outside as fate."
--Carl Jung

So how do we identify our negative, self-defeating, unconscious beliefs, and how do we change them?

The Brain Dump

The brain dump is an exercise to help you identify your negative thoughts and emotions so you can organize life. For 24 hours, carry a small notebook with you and a pen or pencil. Write down as many negative thoughts and feelings as you can. It may take some time to really notice them, but eventually you will find them sneaking in at various points during the day. Also write down anything and everything that is a nuisance, bother, or irritation (i.e. the faucet leaks, I can't find my phone bill, I keep stubbing my toe on the table, etc.).

Now that you've identified some of the conscious things that you'd like to change, let's work on some of the unconscious things.

Use Emotional Releasing Techniques (ERTs)
to Organize Life

There are numerous techniques you can utilize in order to release your attachment to negative thoughts and emotions and organize life, especially on the unconscious level. Each person will find one method that works best for them. Please visit each technique's website to learn how it works, request free information and tutorials, and try them for yourself. If you are open to change, one or more of these techniques will be able to help you.

You can use these techniques anytime that you start to feel overwhelm, confusion, anxiety, or other unpleasant feelings. They are also helpful to use before starting the home organization projects described on Organize Life, Inside Out.

Organize Life with The Power of Intention

Once you've used some of the above techniques to release some of your unconscious blockages to getting organized (closed some bad programs), you can consciously define your intentions with a clear mind.

Don't underestimate the power of intention. What happens if you don't define what you want to be, do, and have in life? You end up adopting the limiting beliefs (default bad programs) of others as your own.

You help manifest things, people, and situations into your life by what you believe, whether consciously or unconsciously.

The good news is that you can use the power of intention to manifest change by defining, affirming, and visualizing exactly what you would like to experience in your life.

Start by making a list of intentions for what you want to be, do, and have in your life. For example, "I want to have a paperless office", or "I want to go to Europe with my family", or "I want to be my own boss".

Now turn the intentions into affirmations by putting them in the present tense, as if you already are experiencing them. For example, if you want to feel good and relaxed when you arrive home, your intention could be:
"I am so happy, grateful, and excited to arrive home to a warm, welcoming, and organized home where I am free to relax and spend time with my family and friends".

Then take a few minutes to visualize yourself actually feeling that way as you are driving home, pulling in the driveway, walking up to the door, and then spending time doing what you have intended.

Repeat this for all of your intentions, until you have a list you feel good about.

Choose between 5-10 of your affirmations, (however many you feel you can focus on in one day), and copy them onto 3 x 5 notecards. Post the notecards where you'll see them often--in your pocket/purse, in the medicine cabinet for when you're brushing your teeth, on your desk, by the TV, next to your bed, etc.-- and make it a practice to read them out loud to yourself at least 3 times per day, visualizing the feeling of accomplishment as you read.

By using the tips and techniques above to organize life, you'll be ahead of 99% of people who never stop and ask themselves why.
