Organize Bedroom, Inside Out

Many people become easily overwhelmed when thinking about how to organize bedrooms. This is often because the bedroom has become a multi-purpose room instead of a sacred space.

A couple "relaxes" in the bedroom, watching TV, while one of them is looking through scattered papers on the bed and eating crackers, while the other one is clipping his toenails and talking on the phone. Not exactly what most people would like to experience in their bedroom.

For most adults, the bedroom really only has three main uses: sleeping, sex/making love, and getting dressed. All other activities and objects act as distraction, avoidance, or clutter.

Have you ever entered a room and felt immediately peaceful and calm? It was most likely because there were not many distractions and was not cluttered. This change in feeling and mental state by a change in your immediate environment is called a "state change".

How good would it feel if you could experience a state change every time you entered your bedroom? Maybe it is someplace you can feel romantic and playful and also know you can rest, relax, and rejuvenate your relationship as well as your mind, body, and spirit.

Before you move on to the step-by-step guide to declutter, clean, and simplify your bedroom and closets, take a few moments to define your intentions to organize bedrooms. What does the bedrooms represent to you? What would you like to experience? Put your intentions in the present tense as if you are already experiencing them.

Some Example Intentions for the Bedroom:

  • My bedroom is my safe haven where I rest and sleep deeply, awakening refreshed and rejuvenated every morning.

  • Our bedroom is our romantic retreat where we re-connect with each other, deepen our relationship, and enjoy sacred and satisfying lovemaking often.

  • I feel put-together, complete, and organized when I get dressed because I know I have clothes that I love and look good in, in just the right amount, and I can locate the perfect accessories easily.

Now write your own intentions for your bedroom and allow them to guide your actions as you move through the next steps.

Back-to-Basics 3-Step Approach to Organize Your Bedroom:

1) Declutter. Learn how to get rid of the junk, the distractions, and whatever is unnecessary to accomplish your intentions.

2) Clean. Learn how to deep clean your bedroom with natural cleaning products and know that you can rest easy in your space

3) Simplify. Learn how to accomplish your intentions by only having what is important for you in your bedroom

Sometimes we find clutter that we have no use for at the moment, but for one reason or another can’t get rid of. In this case, self storage units are a convenient help.
