Top 10 Closet Storage Solutions

These Top 10 Closet Storage Solutions will help you get organized, especially if you can't find the pants you want to wear or can't see the bottom floor of your closet.

They are efficient, practical, and are all relatively inexpensive, helping you get the most space for your money.

  1. Over-the-Door Shoe Organizer: This is a great way to clean up the closet floor and have more space, and it's one of my favorite closet storage solutions. The Over-The-Door Shoe Organizer has rows of shelves or hooks to place shoes, shoe boxes or purses while alleviating the mess on your closet floor.
  2. Over-The-Door Hooks: These hooks slide over the top of the door and allow you to hang clothes on hangers, such as suits or coats neatly. These are the cheapest and easiest closet storage solutions to use.
  3. Double-Up Adjustable Closet Rod: Of course the main focus of your closet is the rod you hang the majority of your clothes on. The double-up adjustable closet rod acts like an extension of the main rod. It attaches to and hangs from the main rod, about 2-3 feet below it, creating a two-rod closet without adding more holes in the walls! You can then hang your shirts on one and pants on the other, utilizing the often neglected bottom half of the closet.
  4. Canvas Garment Bags: To prevent your less-used clothes and suits from getting dusty, canvas garment bags are the perfect solution. These bags are usually zippered and canvas on one side (to allow air-flow) and plastic on the other side (to see what's inside without unzipping it). This prevents dust or moths from getting near your clothing.
  5. Plastic Storage Box: These boxes are great for storing shoes, as long as they are dry when you store them. The clear plastic storage boxes work best since you can see through it without opening it. They are also nice because you can stack them to save space.
  6. Fabric Storage Box: These boxes are great for storing things that need air flow to avoid that musty smell, especially sweaters. Many colorful fabrics and designs are available, and some have a clear plastic window on the front so you can see what's inside. Tip: Make sure all stored clothes are clean and dry BEFORE storing them. Even the best closet storage solutions can't prevent mold and moths from appearing if the contents are dirty and/or damp.
  7. Tie and Belt Hangers: If you're tired of ties and belts entangled in drawers and shelves, you need a good tie and belt hanger. There are many options available, most of them with many hooks and a hanger to hang them in your closet alongside your clothes.
  8. Hanging Shelves: Don't waste vertical space in your closet when you can add a few hanging shelves. They usually are made of fabric, which provides breathe-ability for your clothes. They hang on the main closet rod and have several divided compartments in order to store folded shirts or pants or almost anything else you want to put there.
  9. Closet Dehumidifier: No matter what climate you live in, a closet dehumidifier will help keep your clothes smelling fresh. It is smaller in size than the usual dehumidifier and is more compact, but does the same job. The one I use even hooks right onto the main closet rod and can be recharged every few months.
  10. Cedar Blocks: There is an alternative to those nasty moth balls for protecting your clothing! Cedar blocks, cedar spray, cedar wood, and other cedar products provide a pleasant scent and keep away those annoying moths. Place about four blocks in a small closet, or more depending on the size. If the cedar smell starts to fade, just sand it a bit with some sandpaper every season, and it will be like new.

When you're running late, there's nothing better than being able to find your clothes easily to get dressed quickly. Now you can with help of the above Top 10 Closet Storage Solutions. And, just think of the time saved, not to mention the nice appearance of your organized closet.
