Reduce or Stop Junk Mail and Telemarketer Calls

no junk mailWant to stop junk mail? It can seem overwhelming because it comes at you from so many directions. Where do you start? And how can you stop telemarketers from calling during dinner?

You’ve come to the right place…

While there’s no way to stop 100% of junk mail and phone calls, you can decrease them significantly.

Here are some tips for reducing or stopping junk mail and telemarketers so you can get your sanity and privacy back:

Reduce or Stop Junk Mail:

  • You know those “Privacy Policy” statements you receive from your creditors such as your bank and credit card companies? Usually there is a section that states how you can opt-out of sharing your information with other companies by calling a toll-free number or going online to their website. Act on this right away, and see the junk mail decrease before your very eyes.
  • You can opt-out of many credit offers, catalogs, magazines, and other junk mail by visiting the free website for DMAchoice.
  • A lot of junk mail is the result of the three credit bureaus (Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian), who sell names and addresses for credit offers and other marketing purposes. You can be removed from the credit bureau mailing lists for free by visiting the website for Innovis.
  • You may be receiving junk mail because your name and address because you are part of an organization that has a mailing list of members which it also sells to other businesses, for example, your university or alumni association. The department of motor vehicles also maintains a mailing list which you may want to opt-out of.

Reduce or Stop Telemarketers:

  • Sign up for free online with the National Do Not Call Registry to decrease telemarketer calls to your home and/or mobile phone. You can register up to 3 numbers per e-mail address. Don’t forget to verify your request within 72 hours.
  • Consider having an unlisted phone number in the white pages. Many companies can buy regional lists of addresses and phone numbers.

I can say from my personal experience that I haven’t received any telemarketer calls, and I’ve received little to no credit card offers in the last 3 years since doing the above steps. Junk mail and telemarketers may get your name and address from multiple sources, so always be weary with giving out your personal information, and try to opt-out of mailing lists whenever you can.
